                                                        Psychology for Touch

"A group of people do not become a team until the collective goals take priority over the individuals' goals".
Sports psychology is a vast area that is essential but often neglected in elite sport, especially touch.  How many times are games lost by a team falling apart and turning on each other, individual players losing their self discipline and self belief or simply anxiety and stress causing poor decision making?  These pages aim to not only provide some basic information for the elite touch player to gain a greater understanding of some of the main psychological issues they may encounter in touch, but also to facilitate a self-assessment to identify some main psychological strengths and weaknesses.  From these strengths and weaknesses, you can follow some basic guidance on how to improve your weaknesses through a range of psychological skills training (PST) techniques - some of which you may have already encountered or currently practise but do not know why.

The major issues that these pages will discuss and provide PST for are confidence, motivation and arousal.  Most game based issues a player will face on the pitch are covered within these three areas and by completing an honest self-assessment, you are well on your way to becoming a better player for yourself and your team.  Please click on one of the categories to learn more about these areas or go straight to self assessment to get started.
